The District 8 4-H Leaders 4 Life Contest was held last week, Thursday, May 2 in Bell County and we had a great contest!
Junior Age Division:
1st place – Bell County – Ashley Candelas, Brittany Candelas, Joseph Candelas, Margaret Wood, Sarah Wood
Senior Age Division:
1st place – Bell County – Jeremy Candelas, Brandon Stone, Brittany Stone, Billy Wood, Katherine Wood
2nd place – Williamson County – Shelby Bremigan, Paul Exley, Caleb Fowler, Hayley Fowler, Sydney Reese, Clare Trent
3rd place – Bosque County – Grace Black, Paige Codanti, Jessica Harris, Marti Hanson, Laramie Poston, McKenzie Whitney
All three senior teams qualify to compete at Texas 4-H Roundup in June in College Station where they will compete for a chance to represent Texas 4-H at the national level at the Western National Roundup next January! Wish our teams luck!
In case you are wondering, the Leaders 4 Life Contest is still a relatively new contest in the Texas 4-H program. Here are few details:
Description/Objective:
The Leaders 4 Life Skill-A-Thon is a competitive event designed to challenge county 4-H council teams in their leadership skills, parliamentary procedure, and service learning.
Overview of the Leaders 4 Life Skill-A-Thon Components
- Parliamentary Procedure Demonstration – Teams will have 20 minutes to present a mock 4-H club meeting. Each team will be given a meeting agenda and three problems to incorporate into their presentation. Maximum score is 100 points.
- Question and Answer – Teams will be asked seven questions about parliamentary procedure following their demonstration. Each team member will answer one question. Teams will determine who will answer the remaining questions. Each team member may answer no more than two questions. Maximum score is 70 points.
- Service Learning Interpretation Piece – Teams will develop a one-page (front and back) interpretation piece about a service learning project they conducted during the year. This item will be turned in at the time of registration for judging prior to the contest. The interpretation piece should include the relevance, response, and results of the project. Maximum score is 100 points.
