Leon County Leaders 4 Life Team Reserve Champion at the Western National Roundup

A one-point difference in scores marked the difference between first and second place as it ranked the Leon County Leaders 4 Life team as the Reserve National Champion team in Parliamentary Procedure at the Western National Roundup in Denver, Colorado. The Leon County team is the first team from Texas to compete in the Parliamentary Procedure contest at the Western National Roundup. Other states placing in the contest were New Mexico as Grand Champions, Montana in third place and Colorado in fourth place.

The Parliamentary Procedure competition consists of a meeting demonstration. The team has 20 minutes to correctly demonstrate parliamentary law according to Robert’s Rules of Order in a full business meeting format including opening ceremonies, minutes, officer reports, committee reports, old business and new business. Within new business, the team must work through 3 problems containing 6 basic types of motions plus another three to nine other possible types of motions. Verbal questions about parliamentary law are used in the event of a tie-breaker.

Team members from Leon County are Reagan Robertson of Centerville, Bruen Camp of Centerville, David Roach of Buffalo, Taylor McGill of Buffalo, Jacob Rodell of Buffalo, and Kelcey Cockrell of Oakwood. Coaches are Tommy Neyland, Leon County Extension Agent – Agriculture and Natural Resources, Wendy Neyland, Leon County Extension Agent – Family and Consumer Science, Cayla Christianson, Leon County Program Assistant, and Wade Elliott, Tarleton State University Program Intern.

The team was sponsored by Texas Rural Mediation Services and Carter Ranch of Oakwood, Texas, to be able to attend the Western National Roundup in Denver.
